Dale Gallon Art Texas Civil War Collectible 1989 "Mrs. Wigfall's Wedding Dress" Sold Out Print. This print was signed and numbered by the Artist. The print has never been framed and is in Mint Condition. Certificate of Authenticity is included. Dale Gallon depicts the second flag of the 1st Texas Infantry, part of Hood's Brigade. Tradition has maintained that Colonel Wigfall's wife, Fannie, just prior to the Battle of Gettysburg, sewed the battle flag out of her wedding dress. This was partially true. Daughter Lula, who was fifteen years old at the time, recalled that "the large white star was the special work and pride of her mother. It was made from her wedding dress, as was also the white stripe." Recent analysis of the original flag, however, revealed that most of the flag was made from previously unused dress silk. The description in the title block of the print reads: "The 1st Texas participating in the capture of Smith's Brigade in Devil's Den. July 2, 1863, Gettysburg." This print illustrates a day in Texas history during the War Between the States.
